House of Lords Luncheon 1st May

Posted: May 2024

It’s certainly been a busy time, but the one of the highlights has to be the Society of Women Writers & Journalists luncheon at the House of Lords in London.

Celebrating 130 years as a society, I attended as a member of the society, with fellow author Lizzie Lamb as my guest and we were being hosted by The Baroness Benjamin OM DBE DL – who some of you may know as the fabulous Floella Benjamin.

It was a truly special day but as is usual with me, I had a couple of last minute adjustments to make, including a quick manicure on the train.

Typically, just as I finished, the train manager arrived to check my ticket which was in my wallet. He could see my predicament, and immediately offered to take the ticket out, so not to smudge my manicure. A true gentleman – well done East Midlands Railways. 😊

And well done all the fabulous members of the SWWJ and our wonderful hostess, who gave such an uplifting and empowering speech, we had wings on our heels all the way home.

Coming soon …
